This issue of the Journal of Mediterranean Cities brings together interdisciplinary research addressing contemporary challenges in environmental performance, heritage preservation, urban well-being, community development, and socially responsive design across Mediterranean and comparable contexts. The contributions examine the improvement of thermal comfort and habitability through bioclimatic design, alongside the tensions between land speculation, urbanization, and heritage preservation in Casablanca. The issue further explores the potential of biophilic smart cities to promote health and well-being through connected green environments, and investigates socially responsible approaches to architectural education within vernacular contexts. Nature-based strategies for mitigating urban heat and noise are examined through earth-sheltered buildings, green roofs, and urban plantations. Complementing these environmental perspectives, studies of Al-Asmarat District and the Vendôme Stairs in Beirut highlight the importance of community development and everyday public spaces as forms of social infrastructure. Together, these articles emphasize integrated approaches to creating more resilient, inclusive, healthy, and context-responsive cities.
